Lehigh RiverCARBON COUNTY-  A drowning victim’s body was retrieved yesterday, August 17th, from the Leigh River near the Lehigh Gorge State Park.  The Gorge is located west of Jim Thorpe.

According to a police report, two calls came in reporting of a man who had went under the water and did not come back up.  The call came in around 4PM.  The Lehighton District 5 Dive Team arrived on scene around 4:20PM.  Just after 6PM, the body was discovered and retrieved from the river.

According to the Chief Deputy Coroner of Carbon County, Gerald Jones Jr, a male from out of state died from a drowning that happened during a “group outing” on the Lehigh River.
